Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy have been around since the late 1960s, but the team didn’t really come into its own until the early 21st century. Who are these characters, and where do they come from?

The other members of the team include Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot. Gamora is an assassin who was orphaned as a child and raised by the villain Thanos. Drax is a warrior. Rocket is a genetically engineered raccoon who is an expert marksman. And Groot is a sentient tree who speaks only in the phrase “I am Groot.”
