The film Avatar (2009) is a live-action film set in the mid-22nd century. The film’s title refers to a genetically engineered human-Na’vi hybrid body controlled by a human operator.
The film tells the story of Jake Sully, a paraplegic ex-marine who is commissioned to participate in the Avatar Program. The program is designed to transfer human consciousness into an avatar body in order to interact with the native population of the planet Pandora. Jake is placed in the body of a Na’vi named Avatar, and tasked with winning the trust of the indigenous people in order to help humans secure the valuable resources that Pandora has to offer.

While the film is set in the future, the themes and messages it explores are relevant to our world today. The film examines the importance of environmental protection, the impact of colonialism on native populations, and the power of love and connection to overcome differences. These themes make Avatar an important and timely film.
