Captain America: Civil War is a 2016 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Captain America, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the sequel to 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger and 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and the 13th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, and the collateral damage caused by the Ultron global A.I. fighting in Sokovia, the governments of the world pass an act designed to regulate all superhuman activity. This polarizes opinion amongst the Avengers, causing two factions to side with Iron Man or Captain America, which causes an epic clash between former allies.

In Captain America: Civil War, factions of the Avengers are at loggerheads over the Sokovia Accords, The Sokovia Accords is a set of regulations set forth by the governments of the world in an attempt to regulate and control the activities of superpowered individuals and groups, such as the Avengers. The Act polarizes the Avengers, with some, led by Captain America, feeling that the Accords represent an unnecessary infringement on their freedom, while others, led by Iron Man, feeling that the Avengers need to be held accountable for the damage they have caused. The two factions come into conflict, leading to an epic clash between former allies.
