Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness is an American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Doctor Strange.

The film is directed by Sam Raimi and written by Michael Chabon, Andrew Bernstein, and Jacob Koskoff.

It is the sequel to the 2016 film Doctor Strange and the 28th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Benedict Cumberbatch returns as the titular character, Stephen Strange / Doctor Strange, alongside Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams,Chiwetel Ejiofor.

The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 6, 2022. Development of a sequel to Doctor Strange began in June 2016, with Derrickson in talks to return as director.

In January 2019, Raimi was hired as Derrickson's replacement to direct the film. Prior to Raimi's hiring, likes of Scott Derrickson

Raúl García, and Jon M. Chu were considered to be in the running for the job. Filming was originally set to begin in May 2020 at Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom, but was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic

The film is now scheduled to start production in early 2021.

While little is known about the plot of the film, it is said to be "trippy" and will explore the "multiverse" of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
